Gratitude --
The noblest of emotions,
Dwelling deep in the heart,
Appears on the surface sometimes,
As a fountain of sweet nectar.
At times through palpable signs
Such as words and gestures
Denoting thankfulness
For the favour received,
A grateful smile, a warm handshake,
A 'thank you ' note,
Or just a hug without words,
As an instant reaction.
But more often than not ,
Remains hidden and untold,
Failing to express itself,
At the right moment.
Sometimes one's ego,
Sometimes, hesitation,
Sometimes, apprehension,
Keeps it contained within.
The truth remains, however,
That the feeling itself,
Is sweet and soothing,
As the cool summer breeze.
And holds a two-fold blessing,
Like an act of kindness,
That blesses the benefactor,
As well as the recipient.
Hence being thankful,
For a favour done to you, And expressing your gratitude,
Is indeed a noble virtue.
In being truly grateful,
You ensure your own happiness,
As one cannot be grateful,
And unhappy at the same time.
